Come spend the day with us!
Each year, folks of all ages are invited to Davenport to enjoy a community celebration featuring local talent, live country and bluegrass music, various events, and a community softball game (just for fun).
Here is a sample
from 2004 of what it looked like:
On
Thursday evening we had the downtown sidewalk sale, where you found deals and music by the Turner Girls Fiddling group and Cool Waters band.
On
Friday, the sidewalk chalk art contest took place in the morning, and the city was bustling with bargains from local merchants and area vendors. The library had the book sale and the Lincoln County Museum was open for a step back in time. That afternoon featured a junior kickball game. In the evening, we had fun with the antics of the "Just for Fun" adult softball game, followed by the junior/senior high dance at Memorial Hall.
Saturday opened with the Pioneer Plod fun run, music in the plaza and Driving in Remote Control races. The parade began at 10:45 with the special addition of the golf cart decorating contest. Afterward, in the park the Lions Club had thier annual barbecue, there was bluegrass music and the smell of the wonders of the chili cook-off. A junior carnival, petting zoo and llama rides
were available for the
little ones, and there were wonderful food vendors and a craft fair. There was a Funnelator Water Balloon Launch tournament and the "Win your wife's weight in beer" contest was sure to be a hoot! There's was also a horseshoe tournament. In the evening, the annual alumni reunion banquet in honor of Davenport's former graduates took place, featuring Magic by Dick Frost.
Sunday morning started off with breakfast in Memorial Hall, followed by an ecumenical church service in the parkat 10AM. There was the Lincoln County Museum's ice cream social with entertainment by the talented Cliff Carl.
It was another great year at Pioneer Days!
